The Rights and Responsibilities Initiatives Ghana (RRIG) celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child at Asanso M/A JHS on Thursday, 5th October, 2017 on the theme “The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision 2030”. Among the participants were pupils and teachers of Asanso M/A JHS, Assembly member for Asanso, Community members and RRIG.
Ms. Faustina Osei Prempe, Programs Manager of RRIG encouraged the girls to protect themselves from all forms of violence and abuse. She added that perpetrators of violence can be their parents/guardians, extended family relation, community members and children themselves. She advised children to desist from verbal abuse which leads to low self-esteem.
Mad. Aba Oppong, Executive Director for RRIG stated that the power of the Adolescent Girl is in education not CSEC. She advised parents to provide the needs of the child and not lure them into child labour.
