1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report highlights the programme activities carried out by Rights and Responsibilities Initiatives
Ghana (RRIG) in the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, Bosome Freho District Assembly, and Kumasi
Metropolitan Assembly in the Ashanti Region and the Nzema East Municipal Assembly in the Western
Region for the period January – December, 2019.
2.0 THE GIRLS ADVOCACY ALLIANCE (GAA) PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
Rights and Responsibilities Initiatives Ghana undertook series of programmes
in the Bekwai Municipal
Assembly in the Ashanti Region.
The GAA programme focuses on the following 4 thematic areas:
1. Ending Child Marriage
2. Ending Sexual Violence and Abuse
3. Ending Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children
4. Promoting access to Technical Vocational and Educational Training and decent employment
opportunities for Girls and Young Women
The theme for the Girls Advocacy Alliance programme is Advocating for Girls’ Right: Equal Rights and
Opportunities for Girls and Young Women in Ghana. The programmes targeted: Adolescent Girls and
Boys, Women group, Men group, Youth group, Traditional and Religious Leaders, Duty Bearers, Civil
Society Organizations, Teachers and Persons with Disabilities.
The project is implemented in ten (10) selected communities in the Bekwai Municipality in the Ashanti
Region of Ghana. Below is the list of the project communities:

7. Kookyerekrom
8. Kwamang

2.1 GAA PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION FROM JANUARY – DECEMBER, 2019
2.1.1 Follow up on Community Child Protection Committee in the 10 project communities
A follow up was undertaken on Community Child Protection Committees in all the 10 G
AA project
communities to access the status of 4 thematic areas of the GAA program in the communities in the
Bekwai Municipality in the Ashanti Region. The discussions were centered on:
The negative effects of Gender Based Violence (GBV) on children
The link between GBV and HIV and AIDS
Drafting of bye-laws to protect children in the project communities
The Rights and Responsibilities Initiative Ghana (RRIG) is a female – led Non-Governmental Organization established in 2015. RRIG seeks to improve on the conditions of vulnerable people in the society through community participation, engagement, accountability and capacity building in the realization of their full potential and total human development
